PlayPlax was birthed the same year I was. You’ll have to check the PlayPlax site if you want to know precisely which year, but let’s just say it waswhen mid-century chic started to blend into end-of-century grooviness.
My mom has been a star when it comes to preserving relics from my childhood, and not too long ago, my kid and I got out my old PlayPlax and built some pretty sweet things resembling International-style towers and Eichler homes. I was thrilled to find out they’ve been reissued, ready for this century’s kiddos to start building. With those brilliant colors, they’re like the jewelry of the toy world.
Compare/contrast the new box design at the top with the one we had growing up, shown at the bottom. The kids on the old box look so well-groomed and nerdish, but I’m grateful that someone had the sense to include a girl.
